Ezra Weiss & The Monday Night Big Band

Ezra Weiss is a critically acclaimed Portland-based composer/pianist who has released six albums as a bandleader. Ezra has composed and/or arranged music for Billy Hart, Thara Memory, Leon Lee Dorsey, Stan Bock, and Renato Caranto, among others, and has performed with Billy Hart, Greg Bandy, Michael Philip Mossman, Antonio Hart, Thara Memory, Renato Caranto, and Dennis Rowland. He has led bands in many of the U.S.’s greatest jazz clubs including Dizzys Club Coca-Cola, Smalls, and Tonic in NYC; The Triple Door in Seattle; Jimmy Mak’s in Portland; and the Catalina Bar and Grill in Los Angeles, to name a few. Ezra has also composed music and lyrics to three children’s musicals, two of which were honored by TalkinBroadway.com as among the Top 10 Cast Albums in 2009 and 2013, plus he has been the winner of the ASCAP Young Jazz Composer Award three times. For this year’s Festival, Ezra will lead his Monday Night Big Band which recognizes the longstanding legacies of memorable big bands in residence on Mondays in New York City, including The Vanguard Jazz Orchestra, The Mingus Big Band, The Gil Evans Orchestra, and The Maria Schneider Orchestra. This program will feature all original music, composed and arranged by Weiss.
