Hector Martignon: Mambo Para Colombia

While Colombian-born pianist Hector Martignon is famous for melding Latin culture into jazz, he has composed, orchestrated, produced, performed and recorded music in a wide spectrum of genres including classical, rock, pop and world music. He cut his teeth in the studio recording at age 18, playing on Mikis Theodorakis’s “Canto General”. His credits include numerous albums as a bandleader, two as co-leader, and work as a sideman on over a 100 albums as well as scores for three Broadway musicals and five feature films including arranging and performing on parts of Ang Lee’s Oscar Award-nominated movie Eat, Drink, Man, Woman. After several nominations as a sideman, two of his solo albums were nominated for Grammy® Awards in 2008 and 2010.  Along the way, Martignon has toured, recorded and/or collaborated with an array of stars in the music world including Max Roach, Paul Simon, Chicago, Arturo Sandoval, Randy Brecker, Rubén Blades, Paquito D’Rivera, Gato Barbieri, Steve Turre […] Buy Tickets | Find out more »

MONK’estra, a 15-piece big band, will be paired with the T.S. Monk Sextet on a For Portland Only double bill.
