King Louis and Sweet Baby James on The Square

Posted on by pdxjazz

When Louis first posted a link to this, he teased it with:

Don’t miss Sweet Baby James’ PG-13-rated response to one of host Joe Smith’s questions. You gotta love live t.v., and you’ve REALLY got to love the one & only Sweet Baby James!

If you have the chance to see this band, you shouldn’t hesitate.  Sweet Baby James is one of the rare surviving members of Portland’s early jazz scene — a staple of Williams Ave and (get this) he gave Mel Brown one of his first gigs.  Not only is James great, but the band is always smoking.

King Louis and Sweet Baby James will be playing this Thursday in St. Helens for the “13 Nights on the River” festival.
