Portland Jazz Festival: SF JAZZ Collective – interpreting Stevie Wonder…a constellation of soloists
February 25, 2011If you are lucky enough to hear and see the SF JAZZ Collective 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 26, at Portland’s Newmark Theatre, you will experience some of the hottest instrumentalists and elegant composers in the jazz biz.
As part of Portland Jazz Festival’s “Bridges and Boundaries: Jewish and African-Americans Playing Jazz” theme, these eight guys – yes, all guys at them moment – will be blowing you away with their takes of Stevie Wonder compositions. Each year, the group focuses on a significant jazz composer, though genre-bending Wonder’s work will be featured in both 2011 and 2012
