The respect the musicians have for one another comes through in the subtle and intricate manner of the musical conversation that happens between them on stage. Indeed, you can hear them listening to each other. Drawing mainly on jazz standards, and a few original pieces, they re-present the organ jazz trio in a quiet, sensual, and grooving presentation. Founded by Village Voice icon Greg Tate and co-led with monster bassist Jared Michael Nickerson since 1999, Burnt Sugar the Arkestra Chamber is a sprawling band of musicians whose prodigious personnel allows them to freely juggle a wide swath of the experimental soul-jazz-hip hop spectrum. Burnt Sugar was conceived as a forum for New York area improvisational musicians to compose, record and perform material which reflects the breadth and depth of American diasporan music in the 21st century. Burnt Sugar freely moves between many styles, eras and genres to devise its own exciting hybrids.
