2020 Biamp PDX Jazz Festival presents Charlie Porter — FREE
February 29 | 9:00 pm - 11:00 pm- Free
Hailed as “fluid, expressive and magnificent” by DownBeat magazine, GRAMMY Award-winning trumpeter and composer Charlie Porter first cut his teeth on the New York jazz scene in the late 1990s. He simultaneously studied classical trumpet performance at The Juilliard School under the tutelage of music legend Wynton Marsalis. Though he has a strong penchant for improvisation, Charlie has since delved into many projects from jazz and classical formats to Arabic, Indian, African, Australian Aboriginal and Korean sources, seeking to find common ground among all “good music” and avoiding narrow genre labels. Porter will be joined by Mike Horsfall on vibes and Chuck Israels on bass.
