2020 Biamp PDX Jazz Festival presents Christopher Brown Quartet
February 26 | 8:00 pm - 11:00 pm- $7
Portland native Christopher Brown is the 2nd generation of a musical legacy that stems from his father Mel Brown. Having been formally introduced to music at age five with piano lessons, his real interest began to crystalize by age 11 with his introduction to not just the saxophone and drums, but to jazz specifically. And following the many local, state and regional awards that he would garner throughout his teenage years, it would be his enlistment into the Marines, and subsequent move out to the New York area that would fully cement his commitment into the life of a professional musician.
Brown has worked with the likes of Beyonce, Roy Hargrove, Benny Golson, Branford Marsalis, John Patitucci, George Colligan, Randy Brecker, Ralph Bowen, Vic Juris, Buddy Defranco, Terry Gibbs, Delbert Felix, David Sanborn, Steve Turre, Sean Jones, Antonio Hart, Vincent Herring, Dave Liebman, Jimmy Heath, Wess Anderson, Chuck Israels, Dave Valentine, Paquito D’Rivera, Conrad Herwig, Esperanza Spaulding, and many others. And as of 2018, Christopher is officially a retired Army soldier. In addition to his numerous performance credits, he holds two music degrees from Rutgers University, has been cast in two big budget films (Mr. Holland’s Opus, starring Richard Dreyfuss, and American Gangster, starring Denzel Washington and Russell Crowe), and has appeared in commercials for MasterCard and the History Channel.
Aside from holding a weekly residency with his quartet at The 1905, Brown can be found throughout the greater Portland area performing at events for companies such as Nike, Columbia, Trailblazers, Standard Insurance and Ron Tonkin Grand Turismo. He gives keynote speeches to various organizations regarding the value proposition of music on enhancing leadership teams within company culture. Brown also serves on the boards for the Jazz Society of Oregon, TASTE for Equity and Inclusion and Habitat for Humanity’s Ambassador Council. Christopher is also the first brand ambassador for the Mercedes Benz of Wilsonville dealership.
