Galen Clark is a Portland-based keyboardist and composer who leads the genre-bending soul jazz group Trio Subtonic and the funk collective Outer Orbit. Clark’s music explores a range of rock, soul, funk, hip hop and jazz that simultaneously draws in listeners and pushes boundaries. Galen has been teaching piano and composition for over 12 years in the Portland area. He received a BA in Music Composition from Lewis & Clark College, where he studied with Randy Porter and Forrest Pierce. Galen also studied with jazz greats John Medeski and Jeff Gardner, as well as spending months in Bahia, immersed in Brazilian music. Clark is a frequent collaborator with many notable Northwest musicians including Dan Balmer, D’Vonne Lewis, Damian Erskine, Tyrone Hendrix, Jimmy Russell, Anna Tivel, Nathaniel Talbot and Trio Subtonic bandmates Russ Kleiner and Bill Athens.
