PDX Jazz Education presents Jazz in the Schools Art Gallery
February 18 | 11:00 am - 7:30 pm- Free
Join us in celebrating the amazing student artwork created in PDX Jazz Education’s Jazz in the Schools program!
In this PDX Jazz Education program, students learned about the origins of jazz, its significant figures, its major contributions to American history, and its connection to visual art – specifically the designs found on jazz album covers during the mid-20th century. Throughout the duration of the program, jazz music served as the soundtrack and inspiration for student interpretations of what jazz “looks like” on a record cover-sized blank canvas. This year, we served students from Hillsboro to Gresham and everywhere in between, visiting 15 schools representing 6 districts.
Many wonderful artistic contributions will be on display at the Portland Art Museum who has generously invited all participating students to the Museum free of charge to see their work on display alongside exhibitions by world-renowned artists. This event showcases the creative spirit amongst Portland area schools and students and is the culmination of the Jazz in the Schools program for the 2019–2020 school year.
Our education programs are generously supported by Biamp, U.S. Bank, Regional Arts & Culture Council, M.J. Murdock Charitable Trust, James F. and Marion L. Miller Foundation, Argyle Winery, Pelican Brewing, The Standard, The Music Performance Trust Fund, Anna C. MacAskill Schwab and Dwight L. Schwab Sr. Charitable Foundation and the Autzen Foundation
