2020 Biamp PDX Jazz Festival presents King Louie Trio — FREE
February 28 | 9:00 pm - 11:00 pm- Free
Organist Louis “King Louie Pain” and saxophonist Renato Caranto are well known to Portland area audiences, having performed on Thursday nights with the Mel Brown B-3 Organ Group for 23 years and counting (first at Jimmy Mak’s and now at the Jack London Revue). They’ve also played innumerable other gigs together with the area’s top jazz, blues and soul artists, as well as with their own trio. But they only got around to recording an album of their own, featuring bluesy original instrumentals, after Louis’s wife & manager Tracy Turner-Pain got tired of fans asking where they could purchase those catchy tunes! That recording, appropriately titled, It’s About Time, has earned critical raves both in the US and overseas, with DownBeat honoring it as one of the “Best Albums of 2019.” For their PDX Jazz performance at Bluehour, Louis and Renato will be joined by swinging Chicago transplant Michael Raynor on drums.
